‘Blanc Double de Coubert’ Rose

Rosa rugosa × Sombreuil 5x4'. Cochet-Cochet, France, 1892.

The best of the double whites with recurrent blooms of lush fragrance. Large 2½–3" blossoms are creamy and substantial as if they were carved out of snow-white ivory; not fluffy like some other doubles. Begins blooming in June with some recurrence thereafter. Infrequent hips. Attractive dark shiny green foliage. Good fall color. Open vigorous shrub will form a thicket if allowed. Good for hedges or soil stabilization. Z2. (9–18")

Rosa rugosa hybrids We no longer offer straight Rosa rugosa seedlings. Many wonderful old and new roses carry rugosa in their parentage (sometimes of an undetermined amount), and we have not observed these hybrids to be harmful to the environment. However the State of Maine legally requires us to include this statement: rugosa: Invasive species, harmful to the environment. Do not plant in coastal environments, especially on or near sand dunes. Alternatives: Bayberry and red chokeberry.
