Juglans ailantifolia var. ‘Cordiforis’ Also called Japanese Walnut. Heartnuts are a sport of the Japanese Walnut J. ailantifolia, with easy-to-crack shells and sweet heart-shaped nuts. Used in similar culinary applications as the English walnut but more cold-hardy with large odd-pinnate compound tropical-looking leaves are even larger. Husks can be used to make a yellow dye.

Prefers well-drained soils and full sun. Bears fruit around 5-10 years. Will cross-pollinate with other Juglans species. Z4/5. (1-3' bare-root trees)
