Large mildly sweet berries with high sugar-to-acid ratio. Fast growing and high yielding, this was once the most popular cultivar in commercial orchards in Canada before it got displaced by Northline, which has larger berries. Still a winner in our book. Considered to be self-fruitful but we recommend planting with other Amelanchiers to ensure pollination.
We’re excited to be expanding our selection of saskatoon cultivars this year. We’ve always admired our native Amelanchiers in the wilds of Maine where they grow along stream edges and rocky slopes. Recently we’re learning more about saskatoons farmed commercially for fruit in Canada, much like how we grow highbush blueberries.
